Error Reading .dat file!

I have received this message with two different databases. I have downloaded the latest version, reloaded the game, installed the latest version of directx. Here is the message from Windows Error Reporting:

2/25/2007 8:45 PM Application Error Faulting application tb2.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module ddraw.dll, version 5.3.2600.2180, fault address 0x0000b8f3.

When I type Database=NEWDB1 in config.ini, the game will start and everything works just fine, but I cannot point to the database I was using. The 1st time it happened, I had just run a defrag. The next time, I had done nothing special (that I know of). I am able to create the database, run lots of fights, and then at some point when I try to open the game, I get the message. Any suggestions?

You are the victim of a bug in the game that has me along with others. It has been discussed earlier here. See the thread

.dat file error when opening the game

hope this helps.

All this does is tell me there is no way around this bug. Is the developer aware of this problem? How does this get reported? Seems like a pretty major issue to go without any resolution for such a long time.

Not sure it's the same bug ...

... as the "no Ratings Record found" error mentioned in the post referred to by Bear. From the "faulting module ddraw.dll" part of the message, my very uneducated guess it has something to do with direct draw or direct x graphics, like maybe what's installed on your computer is not compatible with what the game runs on, something like that, but again I could be mistaken on this. Suggest that you try emailing Andreas Raht at tech support, he often responds to direct emails, and he occasionally posts in this forum as well.
