Fatal Error! Error reading .dat-file! Program terminated.
I have just tried opening ver. 2.5 and when I clicked on Continue Game the above message came up. I clicked on the OK button but it continues to re-appear each time I click it. I've never had this problem before.
??? Thanks for any help.

I just tried playing the game again and the message came up again. I noticed that it comes up when Loading Fighters is displayed in the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this? I know Andreas is a busy guy so I'm not expecting a reply within the next couple of days but I'd really like to be able to post the finals schedule for my TGPiS tournaments tomorrow and at the moment I can't do anything because I can't access the game.
Should I simply uninstall and re-install it and see what happens? Thx.

I'm not getting that error message anymore when it reaches Loading fighters. It just freezes for a few seconds and then I get the "TBCB2.5 needs to close down" message and I get booted out.
I'm gonna sleep on this and hopefully when I log on in the morning there's some advice waiting for me. If not, I'll go the uninstall/reinstall route.

Well, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that didn't help. When I copied the TGPiS folder into Saved Games and then tried to open it the same error message came up. I then had an idea to make another uni and copy the Fighter dat file from it into the TGPiS folder. It opened the game but all the records were zero.
Haven't had a response from Andreas yet but it's only been 24 hours since the problem happened so I'll just have to be patient I guess.

It's very fortunate that I had not run any bouts since then so I have not lost any of them. I was really starting to get worried but now I'm very relieved. PHEW!!!!!

I had (and posted) an identical problem recently, but apparently it has been removed from the currently viewable posts. I solved it by having a friend with a game send me a copy of his commentaries .dat file, which I then slipped into the appropriate folder after removing the bad one. This worked fine.
To confirm that it was the commentaries file, I first switched the game from English to German and ran it in German. When I did this, the game ran correctly. This pinpointed the failure in the English commentaries folder which was giving me the .dat-file termination message. |
