I'm gonna repost what I already posted in the main board...it still seems to be a problem and I'm sure it's from something I'm doing since there has been not a mention anywhere else.
__________________________________________________ __
Hey....probably something simple that I have to do to my fonts or something (I don't know too much about computers)...but on the auto scheduler screen I can't read any of the text (assuming there is text). I can only see the boxes with either a number or a check in them...I also have problems reading the scorecards while I'm in the middle of a fight the light yellow numbers on the white screen makes it impossible for me to see.

__________________________________________________ _
I'm gonna bump this up here...I can't see any writing on some of the screens....ie when looking at the rankings I can read IBO because of the black background, but the next one I cannot read...it is just white...same thing with the results screen from tourneys I can read one line...but the next is all white...I'm sure the problem is on my end since nobody else has mentioned any of this. The main problem is with the auto scheduler where I basically can read nothing at all.

Thanks for your time...sorry to bother you

John

Try to start the game without D3D. I think that is what Andreas has suggested.

What effects does removing D3D have on the appearance of the game?

I have a Voodoo3 card from 3dfx (now defunct) and have been having small but annoying glitches like disappearing cursor. I'm hearing from certain friends with expensive new PCs (sigh!) that I will likely need a new video card. They say $300 Cdn should do the trick. Must be nice to have that kind of jack to spend on yourself.

Anyone have suggestions on good reasonably priced vid card that will make glitches go away?

Thanks and Merry Christmas to any who celebrate the holiday!

If you start the game without D3D, you won't have transparency. Without transparency the writing would be directly on the background images, and unreadable, so you won't have background images, too. Also the graphics will be slower.

This problem, and the solution, is as old as OOTP3 or 4. So there should be a bunch of cheap graphic cards which can do that. It's just a problem of some older graphic cards.

Thanks, Andreas. I'm no technophile so can you give me some idea of what exactly I should look for in a video card so I won't waste my hard-earned pittance when (or if) I buy a new vid card?

Unfortunately I don't know that much about vid cards too, but I guess it's just important that it fully supports DirectX 8.1 (or even better DirectX 9, but that would have to be a new card then) directly by hardware.

Video cards

Cap, I too have an older computer with Vodoo 3. I'm somewhat concerned that if I purchase the game, it will not work properly. Will the game in your opinion work at least o.k. with the Vodoo 3 card. With older computers upgrading can cause fatal crashes. Please advise-Thanks the game sure sound great

Everything looks great so far. One problem is my cursor seems to vanish from time to time, and I'm assuming this is the vid card (Voodoo3). I have D3D turned off.

Not to sound even more ignorant than I already have...I don't know what I D3D is let alone how to turn it off.

I know its not anyone here's job to teach me how to use my computer...but does anyone know a simple way to turn off the D3D?

I totally dig this game even though I can only use half the features...and I'm not even a boxing fan.

Thanks...and sorry to keep bothering you,

John

Fubucky,

There are some detailed notes on D3D in the second post of the Problem thread that is stickied at the top of this forum. Hope that helps.

Cap,

(For Starters) Video card upgrades can be tricky but very doable dependant on the current hardware that you will want to keep working with. Your Motherboard, CPU, Memory and Power Supply Unit all factor into the equation of what your video card ceiling is for your computer. To expand past your particular ceiling is a decision to go beyond upgrading to completely rebuilding.

Upgrading an older computer can run between $50 to $125 US and can usually be less beneficial when compared to rebuilding. Once the overall cost of rebuilding a computer is considered at the reasonable price of $600-700 US then the cost vs benefit ratio is heavily favored toward rebuilding. This of course all comes down to overall budget and expectations as well.

What you need to do is find out the type of video card that your Motherboard can support. Most older boards will support either 1x/2x or 2x/4x and will not accept a 4x/8x AGP card, which will make the most impact on how to proceed.

The model and type of computer that you are using & detailed information on the model number of the MB, amount of Memory, PSU Wattage, and type of CPU are all things that need to be known before buying a compatible video card.

Find out that information and you will be on your way to making a solid decision in no time at all.

Sorry, Couriers. I lost you at "For Starters"

Cap

Guess I'll have to go back to MDG Computers, a local outfit, and find out from them what kind of vid card I can put in.

Thanks.

Hey, at least you were honest instead of trying to keep up with me like my father tends to do. I can bury him faster than he usually imagines and it drives him crazy.

My main point was to do some research instead of just running out to buy the greatest card that your budget can afford. Usually the people that don't look into the specs first find out that the card won't plug in or the computer won't boot up after the upgrade.

Going back to MDG Computers is definitely the way to go.

If you end up having any questions or concerns please feel free to post away or even send a PM if you like. Best of luck.

Hey, BigD. What version is your Voodoo3 driver? Do you have DirectX9 installed? Maybe I need more RAM.

Can I eliminate DirectX9 and reload X8? Then maybe I can find that Direct X9 driver you mentioned that you have. Where did you find it?

Cap, the direct x9driver was I beleive from Voodoo 3. Its been a couple of years, so I'm not sure if you visited thier web site if you could download that driver. I am very computer ignorant so I' m sorry I can't help you much. Perhaps a gamer can help you with a newer vidio card. Hope to upgrade to a Dell soon. I purchased my college kids one, and this tbcb would rock on a new Dell.

Not Enough RAM?

I have a Pentium3 running with 128mg of RAM. Should this be enough to run things without glitches?

I still have the vanishing cursor. On the opening screen, the cursor disappears when I move it to one of the option titles, like START FIGHT or downbelow Judges, Announcers, etc. Even with D3D turned off in the config.ini file.

I have a Voodoo3 video card with the latest driver I could find, but I'm reading on the net that 3dfx is defunct and the last driver did not have support for DirectX 9.

If I can't uninstall DirectX 9 and restore an older version, it looks like I would need to buy a new Video Card. Just looking for final confirmation from one of the techs here that I have no more options available. I don't have much in the home PC budget at the moment. I could not justify paying $300 for a new video card just to play a game.

An acquaintance is scrapping a PC and offering me his video card in trade. I may yet be up and running at 100%.

Cap

Thanks for emailed tips.
