Possible Virus
I'll try again.
After downloading and installing the patch, I was perusing this group when a red box popped up saying Remove Detected Spy-Ware, with two buttons, Yes or No. I stupidly assumed it was my McAfee anti-virus software and clicked yes. When I booted up again later, all I got was my desktop background. I tried the McAfee emergency disk and got zip. The only thing I can think of doing at this point is reformatting my harddrive. Unfortunately, I don't have the OS disk, so I'll have to go back to MDG computers. If you see that red box, DO NOT click on YES! Cap

Cap
The least the guy or people who built your comp should have done if they did not give you the OS --- is give you a RECOVERY DISK CD. In case you do not know this, it gets your comp back to as you first received it from them ) I of course live in the UK but i don't know one person who has had a comp made who has not either got the OS or RECOVERY DISK --- thats a must Cap because everone at times will have problems with their comp. When you speak to them insist on an OS or get them once they sort your comp out to make you a RECOVERY DISK. Last edited by wildhawke11 : 12-20-2003 at 06:35 AM. |

"Remove detected Spy-Ware"
Thanks for the tip, Danny. My problem is I'm not the most organized person in the world and I tend to misplace things. (By the way, I'm writing this on my daughter's PC, thank goodness I connected it to the net last weekend!)
I hope no one gets the idea that I think the patch had anything to do with my problem here. That was surely mere coincidence, my own stupidity, and the dirty SOB who sent whatever KO'd my PC. I guess I was hoping that one of the tech-minded folk on this board had come across this thing and discovered a quick fix. Guess I've been lucky. No really serious problems with my MDG-made PC til now, and it doesn't look like I can blame them for this. Does this sound like a virus to you guys?(See previous post) I had thought that my router(Linksys) and McAfee firewall would have blocked this whatever it is.... Cap
