Unhappy Something screwy with rankings since patch?

I have noticed since the patch that a lot of the boxers I have in fights go down in the rankings after winning against top ranked boxers. Some go down several spots after winning. I am using #1 and #2 rated fighters in all my fights. That may be the problem and may have been there before the patch. This may be this way by design but seems a bit screwy for a a 14-3-2 #14 ranked fighter to drop to #19 after beating a 18-8-0 #18 ranked fighter. This is the generic rankings that are shown after a tournement fight is concluded and the fighter is moved to the next fight in the tournement bracket pairings.

Since I reported the above problem I have also had #1 and #2 RATED fighters drop in rankings after beating fighters RANKed higher than them. I had a #14 RANKed fighter drop in rankings after beating a #8 RANKed fighter. This is with the generic rankings. This is making the generic rankings seem useless to me. At least while using #1 and #2 RATED fighters. Not sure yet if this problem goes away using higher RATED fighters.

I am still seeing problems with the generic ranking system. I had a fight where Charley Powell went in to a fight with a #6 generic ranking. His record was 13-6-0. He was to fight Charlie Norkus who had a generic ranking of #13 pre-fight with a 20-11-6 record. Well, Charlie won the fight. His generic ranking stayed at #13 while the loser Powell moved up to #2 in the generic rankings. This seems to me to be a big problem. The rankings are a big part of the game for me and this is making the game unplayable for me because they are so wacky. Keep in mind these are the rankings you see that come up beside the fighter's name in tournement mode.

I will mumble back to you my understanding of the generic rankings and why it looks weird to you. If I am wrong, hopefully someone will correct me.

The rankings are based on the performance points generated in the fighter's last 10 fights. So the rankings really are independant of the performance points when 2 fighters meet.

If fighter A is ranked 1st and fights fighter B who is ranked 10th and beats that number 10 fighter, maybe he only generates 2 p.p. for that fight. That is now part of his last 10 fights. Maybe before the fight his 10 fight in the past was worth 12 p.p. to him. After this fight the 12 p.p. is replaced by the 2 p.p. and he in effect loses 10 p.p. in the counting of p.p. for his last 10 fights.

This can enable any number of fighters to move in front of him without doing anything.

I hope this makes sense and is correct.

Well, there is one reason why the ranking in TBCB can only be good, but not perfect (that means you can play, but there could happen mistakes): You - the gamer - may schedule 1000 bouts for a fighter. Any fighter can have bouts which would never be scheduled in reality, and as much as could never be possible in reality for a single man.

The ranking system has to deal with that. Therefor the 10 bouts issue.

In the role playing version of the game, this will be completely different! But there you will probably only have little chance to schedule bouts as you would like to do

Just my 2 cents, it's up to the Game Designers of course.

Martin's explanation makes sense. It operates much like a golf handicap where your most recent round and 21st previous round determine how much it changes each time you play.

It is just not realistic for a guy to fight someone ranked higher than him and win and then go down in the rankings. In any sport this does not happan. Apparently I am the only one who has a problem with this so I will back off and let the issue go.

What if the rankings were 8 of the last 10 fights? Maybe disregard the highest and lowest? This may work to smooth the changes. This is a way we've used to smooth the changes in golf handicaps because of just what happened here: a big win 10 fights ago fell off the ranking and was replaced by a less valuable victory.
