OOTP 11 Road to Release 2: Player Comparison, Manager Notes, and Single Game Records
Wednesday, 17 March 2010 17:56

In addition to the improvements in the interface, OOTP 11 has added numerous new screens that put valuable information at your greedy little fingertips. Here are three that we think are the most exciting!

Player Comparison
Many of you may have heard the Ryan Howard for Albert Pujols trade rumor, but how would you compare these two players if faced with that option in your OOTP league? Easy! You'd use the new Player Comparison screen, which allows you to directly compare two different players in a number of different statistical categories:

On this screen, you can compare ratings (batting, pitching, or fielding) or statistics (batting or pitching) between any two players of your choice. That includes any players in the history of your league! So, if you want to argue that Howard is a greater slugger than Babe Ruth, use the Player Comparison screen to find your ammunition! OOTP also provides a list of comparable players from the history of your league, which you can click to directly open that player's profile. The "By Age" option allows you to compare with other players based on the player's age, as they do at Baseball Reference. That is, instead of comparing the active player's career to the entire career of retired players, OOTP compares the active player to the retired player's career when they were the same age as the active player.

Manager Notes
We've added a Manager Notes feature this year. The new Manager Notes screen allows you to add custom notes of any kind to your manager profile. Notes also have a reminder feature that will interrupt your simulation after a certain number of days. So, for example, if you want to remind yourself not to let that star player get to free agency, you could do something like this:

Alternately, you can just use them to keep track of events in your personal managerial history, for example if you wanted to keep track of when you were hired/fired by certain teams. You could also use it to record accomplishments. Notes can be edited/deleted after the fact as well, and are stored throughout the life of your manager profile!

Single Game Records
This year we added to the powerful history of OOTP by adding the Single Game Records screen. Use this feature to check out who holds the record for most RBI in a game, for example:

You can view single game records by subleague or for a specific team. The date of the event occurred is also recorded. In addition, there are several "splits" available: regular season games, regular season extra-inning games, postseason games, and postseason extra-inning games.

Note: Since previous versions of OOTP did not track this data, single game records are only available going forward. That is, if you load an OOTP 10 league with 5 years of history, the single game records from those seasons will not appear on this screen.
