Celebrate OOTP's 15th Anniversary With Us And Win Cool Vintage Hats, Shirts, and Jerseys From Ebbets!

1999. The 90s were coming to a close and a new century was upon us. Despite the steroid cloud, baseball thrilled us in many ways and would continue to do so.

And in 1999, after 18 months of development time, Markus Heinsohn released the first version of a game called Out of the Park Baseball, hoping a few baseball fans would enjoy it as much as he did. Today, we have made the original OOTP 1999 available for free, just continue reading!

Over the next 15 years, those few baseball fans multiplied exponentially, and this year Out of the Park Baseball 15 was released to widespread acclaim, which has become an annual tradition. We're deeply grateful for all the support you've given us over the years, which is why we want to celebrate with a special giveaway.

Starting Tuesday, August 26 and ending Monday, September 1, each day we will give away a shirt, hat, or jersey* from Ebbets Field Flannels, a very cool company that specializes in authentic retro gear. Our friends at Operation Sports will be our partner - they will join us in giving away two jerseys on the final day.

Here's how to enter:

Like OOTP and Operation Sports on Facebook. Follow OOTP and Operation Sports on Twitter. Then look for Facebook posts and tweets announcing each day's prize - like and comment on Facebook for two entries and retweet on Twitter for a third entry.

Then multiply that by two, because Operation Sports will be doing the same thing, so you'll have up to six entries each day.

At 9 PM Pacific time each day, we'll choose a winner, but if you don't win, your entries for that day will carry forward. Yes, you could have 42 entries in the virtual prize bucket by the time we choose the winners of two Ebbets jerseys on the final day.**

Each winner will also receive copies of OOTP 15 and iOOTP Baseball 2014, if they don't have the games already.

Sounds awesome, doesn't it? It's the least we can do to thank you, our loyal fans, for helping us build OOTP into a powerhouse in the sports management game world. Read on to find out what else we've been up to.

OOTP Baseball #1 Available For Free

Just for fun, we decided to make the original Out of the Park Baseball 1999 available for free! It is a DOS based game, so you will need to run it in a DOS emulator like DOSBox (free). We've got it working using DOSBox just fine, but it requires some toying with the options, otherwise the game runs too slow. See DOSBox's manual for help. Download OOTP 1 a.k.a. OOTP 1999 here. We also provide a forum thread to discuss the game and emulator questions.

Minor League Pitcher Zach Jadofsky: "OOTP is Deep"

"This is a different kind of baseball game," says Zach Jadofsky, who pitches for the minor league Rome Braves. "OOTP is deep, and to succeed at it, you have to truly understand the game of baseball and not just press buttons to swing and throw." That interest in baseball's inner workings led him to try iOOTP Baseball on his iPhone and then migrate to OOTP 15.

He typically plays modern day seasons, which means he's interested in seeing his own career progress in the game. How does his virtual self fare? Read our interview with Jadofsky to find out.

OOTP 15 Trading Cards Come to Steam!

Next time you play OOTP 15 in Steam, you'll likely get the chance to earn one of our new trading cards for the game which have just been submitted to Steam for review. There will be 9 cards available, with 6 badges, 5 backgrounds, and 5 emoticons in all. Collect 'em all!

OOTP 15's Fifth Update

Make sure you download and install OOTP 15's fifth update, which improves Facegen on Mac and 3D ball flight on Macs and PCs, along with other changes. (Please note that if you bought the game through Steam or the Mac App Store, you'll need to update it there.) You'll find all the details on our forum.

Tales From the OOTP Multi-Verse: 1994

August 12, 1994, when the strike began, is a day that will live in infamy in the hearts of many baseball fans. It eventually wiped out the World Series for just the second time in history, and it threatened to derail the 1995 season too.

On that date, Tony Gwynn was hitting .394, Matt Williams had socked 43 home runs and was on pace to break Maris' record, and the Montreal Expos' 74-40 record was tops in baseball. What would have happened next? Now you can find out in the 1994 Quick Start that we just released. All the details are on our forum.

OOTP Tip: Transaction Terms

What does it mean to outright a player versus option him? What is the reason behind purchasing a player's contract? Some of the terms for roster moves can be a bit confusing, but Le Grande Orange has a handy rundown of them on our forum.

That's it from us this month. Until next time, have fun!

* You select the shirt, hat, or jersey, depending on what we're giving away that day. Please note that, according to the Ebbets web site, they don't carry everything in their inventory at all times, so there could be a 4-to-6-week delay if the item you choose not in stock at that moment.
