Version 1.0.1 - I need your help

Version 1.0.1 got into review last night and got rejected. The reason is:

"When tapping the First Name field, the keyboard does not pop up as it's supposed to to when tapping a text field. The Continue button is accessible, but has no response when tapping it. Same for the Last Name field, when tapping it the user is unable to enter text in it. The Back and Cancel button have no response either. The user is stuck."

I never had a problem with it, no beta tester ever mentioned it to me and I never saw a user talk about a problem with it.

I'm a little bit lost at the moment, so my question is: did someone ever have a problem to use this screen and got stuck on it?

I'm on a first generation iPad, and I have NEVER encountered this issue. There is one thing that might be considered somewhat peculiar though:

User taps in the first name field
Keyboard pops up, as expected
User keys in text

(here's the potentially confusing part)

User attempts to exit the field by tapping on the Last Name field below. This doesn't work.
User figures out that to exit the First Name field they must press the Return key
User can then tap the Last Name field and enter text

I'm looking at this on my iPad now, and I believe the reviewer's issue is connected to what I describe in the last three steps. On the iPhone the setup and layout may be different, but I'm sure a similar "no response when tapping the Last Name field" issue exists.

Exactly that was my (and our) first thought and I explained it but then he answered the text I quoted in my first post so for him the keyboard does not pop up and all buttons do not work.

Very strange.

i've had some taps not respond but nothing consistent and i chalked it up to my ipad, not the app. i think a few times i had part of my other hand slightly on the screen while holding it which cancels out any other touch. i'd hope that an apple tester was smarter than that though!

Very strange.

Does Apple give you any details on their testing environment? Ie, is the test done on actual hardware, vanilla installation (core apps, nothing else), etc?

I just downloaded the game on my iPhone 3GS, and I simply cannot reproduce this bug. Tapping the Name fields causes the keyboard to appear. I tried it using every possible variant (Major League quickstart, Fictional, Historical) and it works every time.

Either something was broken in the update, or the Apple tester has buggy hardware/software on his testbench.

My only info is iPad with iOS 5.1 (I have the exact same configuration).

On the bright side, it is possible to talk to the reviewer and the review process will not start from the beginning again! As soon as we solve this "problem" the review will continue.

I have started over 30 different leagues on 4 different devices - iPhone 3G and 4, and iPads 1&2. Never had that issue come up even once. It's like Nate says, you have to enter 'return' for it to accept your input, but the keyboard has never failed to come up. Tell that guy to stick it.

Started several leagues on my iPhone 3 (which is even not supported officially by OOTPD) with iOS 4.2.1, and never ever had the problem described by the Apple Reviewer...

I've never had the problem and I've started about five or six leauges with the 1.0.0-version.

I believe the issue they are referring to is when you enter a name field, until you hit "enter" you can't hit another button or type in another field.

I did notice this, but I wouldn't say it's an issue at all. Hitting "enter" when done typing seems logical... although clicking another field and then having that "set" what you were typing in the previous is probably more typical.

Still seems a crazy reason to reject your update.

I asked them to test again but still no luck. So now I have to "fix" the screen and upload a new version.

It's not that bad, we don't have to wait for the review, they will continue once I uploaded a new version. I will do this early tomorrow morning (its past midnight here in Germany) so hopefully the process can continue tomorrow.

It is a very strange situation as the screen did not change at all since 2010.

This issue has been there since the beginning of time. Every time I started a new game I would think "Man I should ask the devs if they can change that in the next update". Funny that Apple actually considered it a bug this time after it's been passed through so many times already.
