Online League File Help

Hey guys, sorry if this is the wrong forum I couldn't really decide which would be the best. Feel free to move it elsewhere if necessary.

I got a new computer yesterday and had to download the online league files again for 3 leagues. Each league has great instructions, and I've installed league files several times, so it should have gone fairly easy.

2 of the 3 leagues downloaded without issue. I was able to log in, the league loaded, and I was able to download a new league file from inside the game like always.

However, with my third league, I keep getting an error when I try to load it up. It gets to 17% while loading and then says "Error could not load names file." It gives me the option to restore from a saved backup, but I don't have one since it's a new computer.

I've tried reinstalling the game, redownloading the files, contacting the commisioner, etc. but nothing has worked. I'm at a loss. Was wondering if anyone knew of any possible solutions, or if anyone knows what that error means exactly. Is it something I'm doing wrong? Is it a problem with the file? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You deleted the league and reinstalled from a fresh download? It sounds like you did but I am just checking. No overwrite, delete and new download?

Does "Load it up" refer to opening the league or downloading a league file from ingame?

It sounds like a bad DL but you have tried that. See if your commish will put a new file up for you to DL.

Yes. Even uninstalled the entire OOTP game, and reinstalled. Didn't help.

Opening the league, sorry. Can't even get to the point where I can download the league file in the game.

It sounds like a bad DL but you have tried that. See if your commish will put a new file up for you to DL.

This is my thinking too. Not sure what else it could be at this point.

Figured it out. The file was missing the names.dat file. Once I got that added the problem was solved.

New issue, for anyone kind enough to help.

Got the file installed fine, was able to log in as my manager, and the files are updated to the current league date.

But when I went to download the latest league file in the game, it starts the download but never gets past 0% and then says "error could not download file"

I was able to delete the league file, and unzip the latest files from the website into a new league folder and it did work, so I can download the newest league files that way if need be. But I'd rather not have to unzip the files every time there's an updated file.

I seem to be the only one in the league with this issue, so it has to be something with my set up I think. I don't know anything about the online set ups so I'm not even sure what to check.

I'm able to download other online league files inside the game just fine, just not for this league, so it can't be a firewall issue or anything I don't think.

Still can't seem to figure out the issue. Has anyone had this problem?

My first guess is that something is off in your FTP settings.
When you get the current league file can you export?

I am stretching a bit here.

Check your saved_games/???.lg/settings folder for the file:
accountsdata_commish.dat

If it is there ask you commissioner to email you a new on and overwrite the one you have. I am 90% this holds the FTP settings for the league.

I am able to export, yes. My exports have worked for the last 3 sims, but I've had to unzip the file from the website each time to update my in game file.

Is that still likely the FTP settings? I'll have the commish send the file tomorrow, hopefully it'll work. Thanks for the help.

It's a little file, he should be able to email it.
Being able to do one but not the other????
Let me look in our settings, I cannot remember off the top of my head if they are different.

Download and upload are different settings in the Online League settings. Possible that there was some corruption in the download.

Got the file, and installed it, but same issue. I even tried getting all new settings files after and installing them over my current ones, but it didn't change anything.

I'm at a loss. I can export, I can update by unzipping the file, but I can't download the league file. And it's only this online league that isn't working, and I'm the only GM it isn't working for.

Looks like I'll just have to manually unzip it from the website each sim.

Do you have a firewall or an anti-virus? I am totally guessing but maybe they are stopping it at the website level instead of stopping OOTP.
You may be able to grant specific permission to your league site?
I am not very familiar with this aspect of AVs and firewalls.

You're a genius! That worked. I had just assumed it wasn't the firewall since my other online leagues were fine. It must have something to do with the website, etc. like you mentioned. Thanks as always!!

So, still having issues.

Turning the firewall off allowed the league file to begin downloading, but when it finishes the download, it never has the updated league file. The file I had unzipped was at the league date of 4/1, and my new file should have been 4/16. After downloading the file, it says "success!" for the download in game but then doesn't update at all. It just keeps downloading the same file I already unzipped.

I know the files are updated on the website, because when I unzipped from there my league updated to 4/16.

A few other GMs in the league are having the same issue I did earlier, not being able to download the file in game. This to me suggests it's something with the FTP settings or a missing file; does anyone have any idea what would cause download issues in game? Exports still work for everyone.

The export and import controls in the game are different items.
When we converted to 15 the game did not convert them.

Ask your commissioner to double check the "League File Download Options" in the Game Settings->Online League->Online League Settings.

It is weird that it says it is allowing you to download but not coming through with the new file. I know it has happened to me but it has never been consistent. It was always a bad DL that was fixed next sim.
