Davenport Curb Stompers - after current WWE World Heavyweight Champion (who hails from Davenport) Seth Rollins' (former?) finishing move, the Curb Stomp.
...it's the best I could come up with. :P |

I'm currently in the process of naming teams and doing unis for a fictional league with a current day MLB setup and I just happened to name the Short Season A team from Davenport, Iowa last night.
I went with River Rats due to the city being situated along the Mississippi River and because there was a team from Davenport that played in the Illinois-Indiana-Iowa League from 1901 to 1904 named the River Rats. Although I'm not particularly fond of this name for a Major League level team, it does fit the city and has historical significance there. If you're interested I could post the uni I did, although depending on the year of your league and other personal preferences it might not fit.

Just reading through the wiki page I would go with Black Hawks. Though you can never go wrong with Fighting Mongooses, regardless of location.

How about the Davenport Blues?
"Davenport Blues" was written and recorded by Bix Beiderbecke, the brilliant jazz cornettist, in the 20's. Bix was born in Davenport. |

(All quotes are from Wikipedia.)
Davenport Black Hawks ("Davenport was founded on May 14, 1836 by Antoine LeClaire and was named for his friend, George Davenport, a colonel during the Black Hawk War stationed at nearby Fort Armstrong." Davenport Railway or Railworkers ("Rock Island Railroad built the first railroad bridge across the Mississippi River in 1856. It connected Davenport to Rock Island, Illinois." Or you could go with the Davenport Craigs. NFL RB Roger Craig is from there. Edit: Someone beat me to Black Hawks. I still think that's the coolest name. Davenport Bills, on account that I graduated with Bill Davenport. Give'm a dead man's hand logo and that would make it perfect.

You could use the name Quad Cities instead of just Davenport. That embodies the entire cluster of cities on the mississippi river (Davenport IA, Bettendorf IA, Moline IL, Rock Island IL).
We have a AA team Quad City River Bandits located in Davenport At one time they were called "Swing of the Quad Cities" with a saxophone for a logo for our bix biederbecke affiliation and the big race we have every year. Also a minor league hockey team Quad City Mallards located in Moline We had an arena football team called the Quad City Steamwheelers and a semi-pro basketball team called the Quad Cities Thunder Quad City Floods would fit the area pretty well (the minor league team often has to play a lot of extra road games because the stadium floods almost every year) Quad City Current Quad City Deeres (they could be sponsored by John Deere with yellow and green uniforms and we really have a lot of the 4 legged deer too :P) I had a fictional team located in Davenport that I named the Iowa Mad Cows |
