Schedule Challenge

I am planning to expand my 12 team league to 24 teams (two 12-team subleagues). The leagues each have three 4-team divisions.

League one is in the USA, League two is in Europe.

I would like to have interleague play, but almost like a tour. So at about the 1/3 mark of the season, each of the European teams comes to the US to play against six of the 12 US teams in 3 game series (18 games). At about the 2/3 mark, the US teams go to Europe to play the teams they didn't play when the European teams came to the US in 3 game series (18 games).

During the rest of the season I would like each team to play each team in their own division 10 times (30 games), and each team outside their division 7 times (56 games) for a total schedule size of 122 games. The 7 games can be played as either one 4-game and one 3-game series or two 2-game series and one 3-game series (ideally, a mixture of the two options).

In summary: each team plays 10x against each team in their own division (30), 7x against each team in their league (56), 3x against each team in the other league (36).

Can this be done?

Pete

I can see this working pretty closely to how you lay it out. The intradivision 10 games I figure to be split H/A 5/5, 4/6, and 6/4 versus those three opponents. A couple other questions...

Would you want an All-Star Break? A good time may be just before the second interleague tour begins.

The 122 games I figure to span a season 6 weeks shorter than the typical 162-game MLB season which runs basically from first of April to first of October. Would you want to start 6 weeks later, end 6 weeks earlier, start 3 later & end 3 earlier, or what?

An All-Star game would be great! And, I like your idea as to where it would fit. I would start the season on or about April 25 or so.

This attached should fit the parameters. Let me know if there are any problems.

Sorry, but I had to make a fix to the schedule file. The file was set in the heading to start on Sunday (1 value for start_day_of_week when it should have been 2). That change can be easily made manually if the file was downloaded previously, and the current attachment is fixed.

It is in the same spot as the old file above in post #4. I just removed the old and attached the fixed in its place.
